Kilambakkam Railway Station & Skywalk: Opening Date, Latest Update
The new Kilambakkam Railway Station and the skywalk connecting it to the Kilambakkam Bus Terminus (KCBT) are nearing completion. However, the inauguration has been slightly delayed due to a few pending works.
Current Status (January 2026):
- Railway Station: Construction, including platforms, between Vandalur and Urapakkam is almost complete.
- Skywalk: The pedestrian overpass across GST Road, linking the station to KCBT, is still under construction and remains the main reason for the delay.
Expected Opening: Officials had earlier planned to open the station in January 2026. However, it is now expected to become fully operational by February 2026, after the completion of the skywalk.
Reason for Delay: The skywalk is essential for passenger safety, as it allows direct access to the bus terminus without crossing GST Road. Authorities have decided to open the railway station only after this key facility is ready.
Facilities:
- The station will have three platforms capable of handling 12-coach electric trains.
- Passengers will be able to reach the bus terminus directly through the skywalk.
Once completed, these facilities are expected to significantly improve connectivity for passengers traveling to and from the southern districts.
