Economically poor students in TN interested to pursue under-graduation studies now have a reason to rejoice by this decision from Madras University.
The Madras University or MU has decided to continue the free education scheme for the upcoming academic year 2025-26 also. It must be taken into account that this scheme has received positive feedback from the economically poor students who wanted to pursue undergraduate education in the last academic year.
It has been brought out by a notification from MU that this scheme would be applicable especially for those students residing in Tamil Nadu seeking UG courses admission in self financing and aided colleges affiliated to MU. The students must have appeared for class 12 exams in the ongoing academic year 2024-25.
The notification added that application forms with required documents must be uploaded to the university website within 15 days from the publication of class 12 results. It is worth noting that preference would be given to economically backward students, orphans, children of widows, first graduates of the family and trans-persons.
Those students who are applying should have passed all the subjects on the first attempt and they must submit both class 11 and class 12 marks statements. Non-submission of these 2 mark statements would result in rejection of the application forms.
There would be a minimum of 3 free seats in each of its allotted colleges. Point is that those students whose family income doesn`t exceed Rs 3lakhs would be eligible for the scheme. Verification of the income certificates issued by tahsildar and Revenue Dept would be carried out. The school education department has already mentioned that the results of class 12 would be announced on 9th May. For other classes, schools have been closed for summer vacation is known.
