Responding to high commuter demand, Southern Railway has increased the number of daily AC EMU (Electric Multiple Unit) services in Chennai from six to eight trips per day, starting Thursday (May 2).
According to a report by Thanthi TV, the decision comes after repeated appeals from regular suburban train users, particularly those commuting during peak hours, requesting more frequent and comfortable travel options.
In a press release, Southern Railway stated that the revised schedule has been designed to better match morning and evening travel patterns, ensuring higher convenience and improved travel experience for passengers.
“The rescheduling ensures that AC EMU services align more closely with the travel timings of suburban commuters, thereby enhancing utility and convenience,” the release said.
The move is expected to ease congestion, offer relief from heat during summer months, and encourage more passengers to opt for air-conditioned public transport.
