Smart Parking System Launched at Marina Beach and Key Chennai Areas
A new smart parking system has been launched by the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) at Marina Beach and nine other major locations in the city, including Anna Nagar and Nungambakkam. Under the new system, all parking charges must be paid digitally.
The Tamil Nadu Ex-Servicemen`s Association has taken over fee collection duties, replacing a previous private contractor. As per the updated system, digital payments are mandatory, and vehicle owners must ensure their registration numbers are printed on the receipt, which will now include a QR code for verification.
The smart parking system allows for up to five entry and exit points along the stretch from the Marina swimming pool to Queen Mary’s College.
Parking Charges:
- Two-wheelers: ₹5
- Four-wheelers: ₹20
- Buses and vans: ₹60
This initiative follows a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, aimed at reducing financial strain on the Corporation while ensuring efficient operations through private expertise.
The GCC has urged the public to strictly use digital payment modes and report any issues or complaints to the 1913 helpline.
