Indian Overseas Bank Launches UPI 123Pay - Digital Payments Now Possible Without Internet
In a major step towards inclusive digital banking, Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) has introduced UPI 123Pay, a new service that allows users to make digital payments without an internet connection.
The innovative system is designed especially for feature phone users, enabling secure and convenient transactions even in areas with limited or no internet connectivity.
What is UPI 123Pay?
UPI 123Pay allows customers to make payments through a simple missed call, eliminating the need for mobile data or Wi-Fi. After the missed call, users receive an IVR (Interactive Voice Response) call to complete the payment process. They can enter the transaction amount and UPI PIN using their phone keypad or voice commands to confirm the transaction.
Developed in Collaboration
This initiative has been launched by IOB in collaboration with Network People Services Technologies Ltd (NPST) and MissCallPay. Together, they’ve built a voice-based UPI platform that ensures simple, secure, and inclusive access to digital payments for people who do not own smartphones.
Bridging the Digital Divide
According to estimates, nearly 850 million Indians still do not use digital payment systems, and about 400 million rely on feature phones. UPI 123Pay aims to bridge this gap by empowering rural and semi-urban users to participate in the digital economy without requiring internet access.
Available in 12 Indian Languages
To make the service accessible nationwide, UPI 123Pay supports 12 Indian languages. Apart from payments, users can also:
- Check account balances
- View last five transactions
- Change UPI PIN
- Register complaints through the system
