Electricity Bills Rise in Tamil Nadu: Consumers Urged to File Complaints if Overcharged

Posted on: 11/Nov/2025 2:15:13 PM

Many consumers across Tamil Nadu have reported unusually high electricity bills in recent months. The Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) has clarified that consumers facing such issues can file complaints both online and offline for immediate resolution.

Electricity bills in Tamil Nadu are collected once every two months, with 100 units provided free of cost and concessions for up to 200 units. However, those consuming more than 300–350 units are charged higher rates.

TNEB officials explained that delays in meter readings sometimes taken 3 to 6 days late can result in additional units being counted, leading to higher bills. This has caused concern among consumers, particularly in September and November billing cycles.

Consumers can register complaints by visiting their respective division offices or through the official website https://www.tangedco.gov.in under the “Consumer Grievance” section. Complaints can also be made by calling the helpline number 1912.

To ensure swift redressal, special officers have been appointed in every zone. TNEB has also warned that strict action will be taken against any employees found responsible for errors in billing.

Officials have urged the public to verify their bills carefully and report any discrepancies immediately.
