Tamil Nadu Govt Allows Combined Ration Supply for Cardholders Affected by Heavy Rains
The Tamil Nadu government has announced a special measure for ration cardholders who were unable to collect their monthly supplies due to last month’s heavy rains. Over 20% of beneficiaries across districts such as Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, Ramanathapuram, and Tiruvallur did not purchase ration items as severe monsoon rains forced people to remain indoors.
Although Tamil Nadu’s ration system does not normally allow carry-forward benefits, the Food and Civil Supplies Department has decided to provide last month’s missed ration items along with this month’s quota. District-wise data collection shows that a large number of cardholders were affected by the weather conditions.
Officials confirmed that steps are being taken to ensure combined supply distribution for all eligible cardholders who could not visit ration shops in November due to the rains.
