Great news regarding the starting of bus operations from Asias largest and first fully air-conditioned integrated bus terminal in Trichy!!
At Panjapur on the Trichy- Madurai NH, a new bus terminus constructed with the latest infrastructure was opened in a grand manner on 9th May is known. In the first week of June, this new bus terminus would become functioning. This bus terminus has the largest building in Asia and it is the first fully air-conditioned bus terminus also.
Constructed at a cost of Rs 408 crores on a land area of 40 acres, the new bus terminus has been named as Muthamizh Arignar Kalaignar Karunanidhi Integrated bus terminus.
There are 2 main gates present in this integrated bus terminus. From the ground floor, those buses going to outstation places would be operated. From the first floor, city buses would be operated.
It is sensational to note that about 401 buses could be parked here at the same time. The ground floor of the 1.20lakh area has been fitted with air-conditioners like the airport with 704 tons of a/c. From the first week of June, this new bus terminus would become fully operational for the public. This was according to the district collector of Trichy, Mr. Pradeep Kumar. He has mentioned that all the construction works have been completed.
Regarding allotment of space and time for both govt buses as well as private buses at this new bus terminus, a meeting would take place between RTO, Transport Dept and district administration etc.
It must be noted that the buses going to outstation places from Trichy central bus stand are being shifted to Panchapur. In this situation, steps are being taken to change the routes of city and district buses to make it easier for the public to reach the central bus stand and railway station. Point to be noted is that Panchapur is about 7.5kms away from the central bus stand.
