It is worth mentioning here that these small bumps are formed all of a sudden or over a period of time and could be due to heat rash, clogged pores etc. The AAD or American Academy of dermatology has revealed that our backs are prone to skin flare-ups. This can be due to factors like friction, sweat and less visibility etc.

These are the various common reasons and remedies for small irritating bumps or skin flare ups would occur on our backs

Bacteria or friction can lead to red pus filled bumps. To avoid this, we must use antibacterial body wash with benzoyl peroxide and wear loose clothes. Picking the bumps could worsen the issue so please avoid it.

Heat rash or miliaria:

Especially in the hot weather due to excess sweating, we can get bumps on our backs. These are reddish and itchy. It is necessary to cool our skin wear loose clothes etc

Keratosis pilaris:

Building up of keratin blocking pores can lead to this kind of bump on the back. In this case, it is necessary to use mild scrub or use creams with lactic acid.

Fungal infections/ tinea versicolor:

Discoloured itchy bumps could occur due to fungal infections. It is important to use antifungal cream and maintain dryness. It is necessary to avoid reusing damp towels or wearing sweaty clothes for a long time.

Blackheads or pustules could occur due to blocked pores or excess oil production. In this situation it is important to use tea tree oil or salicylic acid body wash. The bed linens must be changed often.

Allergic reactions or contact dermatitis:

Body sprays, laundry detergents etc can cause allergic reactions or contact dermatitis in us. It would be better to switch to hypoallergenic products that are fragrance free. Using synthetic or wool must be avoided as they can be harsh on the skin

Poor hygiene or improper exfoliation:

Pores can get clogged due to the build up of sweat a and dead skin. This can occur especially on the back as cleansing is ignored by us. We can use a back scrubber to reach those areas that would be difficult to clean.

Conditions like eczema or psoriasis can lead to itchy bumps on the back. We must visit a dermatologist without fail if the bump persists for more than 2 weeks or worse.
