At present, Nilgiris district had only 35 village panchayats. Under the new restructuring plan, 27 existing village panchayats have been divided to form 88 new panchayats, while 9 village panchayats have been retained without any division.

Total Panchayats Increased to 95

- Following this reorganisation:

- Existing Panchayats before redivision: 35

- Panchayats split: 27

- Newly created Panchayats: 88

- Panchayats not divided: 9

- Total Panchayats after restructuring: 95

The move is aimed at strengthening rural governance, improving administrative efficiency, and ensuring better delivery of government welfare schemes at the grassroots level.
