The Chennai Meteorological Department has issued an important alert for the next two days as weather conditions are expected to intensify due to a developing low-pressure system.
The low-pressure area that was located over the southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Sri Lankan regions has now moved towards the Kanyakumari Sea (Kumarikadal) and nearby areas. It has been slowly moving in the west-northwest direction since this morning.
Heavy Rain Alert for Mayiladuthurai & Cuddalore
Due to the system’s movement, heavy rain is likely at one or two places in Mayiladuthurai and Cuddalore districts today and tomorrow. A yellow alert has been issued for both districts for the next two days.
Weather Forecast for Chennai
The sky will remain partly cloudy over the Chennai suburbs today.
Moderate rainfall is expected in one or two parts of the city.
Another Low-Pressure Area Forming on November 22
A new low-pressure area is likely to form over the southeast Bay of Bengal on November 22.
It may move in the west-northwest direction and intensify further within the next 48 hours.
Tamil Nadu to Receive Widespread Rain on Nov 22 & 23
On November 22 and 23, light to moderate rain is likely at most places along coastal Tamil Nadu, and at one or two places in interior Tamil Nadu.

Warning for Fishermen
Cyclonic winds are expected to blow over the coastal areas of South Tamil Nadu, the Gulf of Mannar, and the Kanyakumari Sea.
Fishermen are strictly advised not to venture into these areas for the next two days.
