The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced the possibility of a low-pressure area forming over the Indian Ocean on Tuesday (February 17). The system is expected to develop within the next 48 hours over the central parts of the south Bay of Bengal and adjoining equatorial Indian Ocean.
Weather System Details
According to the weather bulletin, an upper-air cyclonic circulation currently prevails over the eastern equatorial Indian Ocean and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal. Due to this, a low-pressure area is likely to form soon, potentially influencing regional weather patterns.
Tamil Nadu Weather Forecast (Feb 16–19)
- Dry weather conditions are expected over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal from Monday (Feb 16) to Thursday (Feb 19).
- Light to moderate rainfall may occur at isolated places on Friday and Saturday (Feb 20 & 21).
- Maximum temperatures are likely to gradually increase across the state.
Fog Alert in North Tamil Nadu
Light to moderate morning fog is expected from Monday to Friday in northern districts including:
- Chennai
- Tiruvallur
- Kanchipuram
- Chengalpattu
- Viluppuram
- Cuddalore
Chennai and its suburbs are expected to experience partly cloudy skies with light fog during early morning hours.
Fishermen Warning
Strong winds reaching speeds of up to 55 kmph are likely over parts of the southwest Bay of Bengal, adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal, and nearby equatorial Indian Ocean regions. Fishermen are advised to exercise caution while venturing into the sea.
