The Chennai Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (CUMTA) has announced that over 50 lakh tickets have been sold through the Chennai One mobile application, marking a major milestone in the city’s integrated transport system.
Launched on September 22, the Chennai One app was introduced to integrate public transport services across the city. Through the app, passengers can book QR code-based tickets for Chennai Metro, suburban electric trains, and Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) buses - either individually or as a combined service.
Since its launch, the app has received strong public response. It offers multiple convenient features including:
- Monthly bus passes
- Special concessional travel for ₹1 on select services
- Seamless digital ticketing for Metro, bus, and suburban rail
The app helps passengers avoid long queues at metro and railway stations and reduces ticketing-related issues in buses. So far, more than 5 lakh users have downloaded and actively use the app.
According to officials, when the app was first launched, it recorded an average sale of 20,000 tickets per day. Currently, daily ticket sales have increased to 35,000 tickets, reflecting growing adoption among commuters.
The milestone of 50 lakh ticket sales highlights the increasing shift towards digital public transport solutions in Chennai.
