CBSE Class 10 Board Exam 2026: First Public Exam Mandatory, Second Attempt Optional

Posted on: 11/Feb/2026 9:25:34 AM

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced a major change in the Class 10 board examination system from 2026. As per the new guidelines, the first public board exam will be mandatory for all Class 10 students, while a second attempt will be optional for those who wish to improve their scores.

Under the revised exam pattern, CBSE will conduct two board examinations in a single academic year. The first examination session is compulsory, and students must appear for it. The second session is optional and will allow students to reappear in selected subjects to improve their marks.

CBSE has clarified that the best score obtained between the two attempts will be considered for the final result. This new system aims to reduce exam stress and provide students with an additional opportunity to enhance their performance.

The move is in line with reforms introduced under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which focuses on making board exams more flexible and student-friendly.

The updated exam structure is expected to benefit lakhs of students appearing for the CBSE Class 10 board exams in 2026 and beyond.
