Meat sales will be banned in Chennai on Friday, January 16, in observance of Thiruvalluvar Day, as per government orders. The Greater Chennai Corporation has announced that four corporation-run slaughterhouses will remain closed for the day.
Slaughterhouses to Remain Closed
According to the official statement, the following municipal slaughterhouses will not function on January 16:
- Perambur
- Villivakkam
- Saidapet
- Kallikuppam
As a result, meat shops and retail outlets dependent on these facilities will also remain closed across several parts of the city.
The civic body has requested meat traders and the general public to extend full cooperation and comply with the government directive.
