Posted on: 15/Jan/2026 10:00:33 AM

The Koyambedu Vegetable Market in Chennai will remain closed on Saturday, January 17, in view of the Pongal festival, according to an official announcement.

Speaking on the matter, G.T. Rajasekar, President of the Koyambedu All Traders Associations Federation, said that farm workers, traders, and market employees will be travelling to their native places to celebrate Pongal, making it unfeasible to operate the vegetable market on that day.

Fruit and Flower Markets to Function Normally

While the vegetable market will remain shut, shops in the Koyambedu fruit market and flower market will function as usual, ensuring continued availability of fruits and flowers for the public.

Traders and consumers are advised to plan vegetable purchases in advance to avoid inconvenience due to the holiday.
