Happy news!! Get ready for the inauguration of Royapuram bus terminus next month!!
The construction works plus allied works at the Royapuram bus terminus in north Chennai has been completed by the Greater Chennai Corporation or GCC. The sensational news that has come out now is that this bus terminus will be inaugurated next month. Once inaugurated, the MTC would begin the operation of buses in Chennai.
In the second week of October, a foundation stone would be laid for the construction of a new bus terminus in Broadway in north Chennai. Point is that bus services would be shifted from Broadway to Royapuram. It is now mentioned that once the Royapuram bus terminus becomes operational the passengers from north Chennai would benefit as it would lower the travel time and decongest arterial stretches leading to Broadway.
Facilities available in Royapuram bus terminus:
Information gathered is that the new bus terminus can accommodate as many as 55 buses and it would have toilets, waiting halls for passengers and MTC staff, feeding room etc. To address operational requirements, the GCC has been associating with MTC, traffic police and Metro Water dept etc. This was brought out by GCC chief engineer (general) Mr. B. Shankaravelu.
He added that based on the MTC requests modifications like terminal roof changes, bus bays redesigning, additional speed breakers installation etc near the Royapuram Bridge would be done. In phases, the buses operating out of the Royap[uram bus terminus would be increased based on the demand. Since it is a temporary bus stand, there are no parking facilities available now.
