Heavy Traffic Congestion Continues on Busy GST Road Stretch Near Guindy
The stretch of GST Road between Guindy and the Kathipara flyover remains one of the most congested corridors in Chennai, with continuous traffic throughout the day. The route serves thousands of motorists heading toward the Alandur Metro station, airport, St. Thomas Mount and Kathipara, leading to frequent bottlenecks.
During peak hours, slow-moving traffic often builds up near the Guindy Railway Station entrance, as cabs, autos and private vehicles stop to pick up and drop off passengers. Vehicles, including share autos, are also parked near petrol bunks, adding to the congestion. In the late evenings, omni buses parked near roadside hotels further choke the stretch.
Restaurant-related parking issues add another layer to the problem, as visitors often leave their vehicles on the road despite the presence of designated parking areas.
According to the Greater Chennai Traffic Police, traffic marshals have been deployed to regulate roadside parking, and long-term measures are currently being discussed to resolve the persistent congestion along the stretch.
