Many people lose their lives due to cancer based health issues is known. There are many research activities going all over the world to cure cancer. In this scenario news has emerged regarding combating this dreaded cancer.

It is now said that an extract from daffodils would combat cancer.  It is superb to note that scientists have extracted a natural anti-cancer compounds from daffodils and these compounds would help in the treatment for cancer in the people.

It must be noted that these daffodils have leafless stem and they could be of height 6 inches to 20 inches. The flower is characterised by the presence of trumpet shaped corona located at the centre and there are as many as 6 floral leaves surrounding it to give awesome appearance.

This was confirmed by the scientist named Denis Lafontine belonging to ULB or University libre de Bruxelles of Belgium.

According to the researchers ‘Haemanthamine’ is the name of the compound which is an alkaloid and it binds to the ribosome. It is well known that there ribosomes are nanomachines and play crucial part in our cell survival. These ribosomes help in the synthesization of our proteins.

It is important to mention here that cancer cells rely on increased protein synthesis for their unrestrained growth in our body. It is clear that cancer cells are sensitive to treatments that Inhibits the production as well as functioning of ribosomes.

Slowing the cancer cells growth is very important in the treatment and in this regard it is now proved by the researchers that anti-cancer compound ‘ Haemanthamine’ extracted from daffodil blocks the production of proteins by ribosomes.

Researchers also spoke about how nucleolar stress causes activation of anti-tumoural surveillance pathway and finally in the destruction of cancer cells.
