The airport in Chennai is making superb news now!!
The Chennai airport on Thursday, 18th May 2023 enhanced its operational efficiency of handling air traffic by commissioning 2 taxiways. It is known that in the coming days migration to the new integrated terminal would be carried out. It is now revealed that the new taxiways here would be a shot in the arm for the Chennai airport as it would be adding new airlines and routes etc in the future.
With the commissioning of rapid exit taxiway Zulu and link taxiway D-1, the peak hour capacity of the airport at Chennai would increase from the present 36 aircraft movements per hour to 45 .
The authorities at the airport have explained that the newly commissioned exit taxiway here would be a huge filip to the airside operations. It would reduce the runway occupancy time for arriving flights and overall runway throughput would be increased. Information gathered is that the newly commissioned exit taxiway is linked to the runway at an angle that would allow the aircrafts to exit the runway at great speeds. Wide bodied aircraft could also be accommodated in the new taxiway that has a length of 400m and a width of 23m.
