Safety of the students and staff are very important and for this reason AICTE or All India Council for Technical Education has instructed all the colleges and universities (Higher Educational institutes) to install air-sanitisation devices on ultraviolet band irradiation.
Scientific research labs operating under the Union government (including the Institute of Microbial technology) have developed the devices and these devices have the potential to reduce cross infections and restore students confidence in academic places. This has been mentioned in the circular from AICTE to all the vice-chancellors of affiliated universities including self financing universities and deemed to be universities etc.
It was noted by the council that the aerosol or airborne mode of transmission of SARS-CoV2 virus was the most likely cause of the spread of Coronavirus infection. It is known that this mode of transmission has also been confirmed by major health agencies such as WHO or World health Organisation.
It was later brought out by AICTE that as mitigation measures both CSIR and its Institute of Microbial technology or CSIT-IMTech have developed air-sanitisation devices based on ultraviolet band irradiation. It is learnt that the technology has been transferred to more than 31 companies. These companies have been installing the air sanitisation devices in various buildings, air-conditioned buses etc.
It is superb to mention here that by using these air-sanitisation devices in the air-conditioned buses the probability of another passenger getting infected with Covid-19 from a single infected passenger gets reduced from about 40% to less than 0.1% in a 8 hour journey.
