If you have gone across OMR or Rajiv Gandhi Expressway then you would have come across two mini U turn flyovers that are being constructed there slowly.
It was in 2019 the projects were proposed but the construction work started in the month of December 2020. Issues in the land acquisition has been cited as the reason cited for the delay in the construction of flyover at Thiruvanmiyur and tree transplantations has been the reason for the delay at Indira Nagar. It must be noted that the combined project cost of the flyovers is Rs 110crores.
It was later brought out by a source belonging to TNRDC (one of the agencies in-charge of the construction) that the mini flyover proposed at the Thiruvanmiyur junction would start next to the MRTS track that is barely 500m from the junction. Point is that the other end of the flyover would be across the road close to NIFT premises.
It was mentioned by an officer belonging to TNRDC that flyovers landing space needed 1600 sq. m space that had to be chipped away from the NIFT premises. It is now said that the flyover would be near to the institutes perimeter wall and for that a request has been made to NIFT. The official spoke about how NIFT wants an equal share of land allocated to them.
No such land acquisition issues are present in the second flyover at Indira Nagar junction. Truth is that as many as 21 trees have been removed by the TNRDC and soon another 10 trees would be removed. The flyover would have a clear course once all trees get removed.
The superb information is that the government has shifted these trees (instead of knocking them) down to the Taramani based Central polytechnic campus. Truth is that this would increase the chances of their survival.
