Undertaking ‘Girivalam’ (Undertaking a religious walk around the bottom of the mountain of Thiruvannamalai) on the Full Moon Day (Poornima or Pournami in Tamil) has been centauries’ old tradition.

It is a decades-old tradition for thousands of devotees to undertake ‘Girivalam’ on the Full Moon Day or ‘Pournami’

The Full Moon Day for the Tamil calendar month of ‘Vaikasi’ falls on 5th June (Friday) at 3.22 AM to the next day (Saturday, 6th June) 1.36 AM.

Due to the prevailing lockdown situation as a preventive measure against the raging coronavirus pandemic, undertaking girivalam was banned during the Tamil calendar months of Panguni and Chithirai.

Now, the collector of Tiruvannamalai District has notified that undertaking girivalam during the Full Moon Day of the Tamil calendar month of Vaikasi is also banned!

Naturally, thousands of devotees are disappointed with this!
