It is necessary for the travellers to have an e-pass for inter-districts travel in the state of Tamil Nadu.
The news that has come out now is that the district collectors have been directed by the state government to consider the tokens issued by the registration department as e-pass for inter-district travel.
It has been mentioned by the Revenue Secretary, Atulya Mishra, in a letter written to IG of Registration that the concerned officials might be instructed that the public having valid tokens issued by the Registration Department for registration of a document and the executed document proposed to be registered may be allowed to travel to the sub-register office. Truth is registration process was carried out even during the lockdown time as the registration Department was allowed to operate.
There have been restrictions in the issue of e-passes for inter-district travel in TN and due to this the public wanting to register could not travel in the lockdown period. It must be noted that many had urged the state government to ease this.
Most applications for the e-passes were rejected and there were many complaints about this. Later, the state government relaxed the process and many people got relief as they were able to do their registration.
It was pointed out in the letter from Atulya Mishra that since the services of the Registration Department have been classified as essential, it is absolutely necessary for the people to move from one place to another for the sake of completing formalities of document registrations even if it involves travelling inter-district.
After the registration of documents, the sub-registrar issues a receipt. Information collected is this receipt could be used as e-pass for the return travel by the people. It is known that in the year 1811 the department of revenue of the state of TN was formed with headquarters in Chennai.
