Record Breaking!! Chennai Division of SR achieves revenue of Rs 4611 crores!!
In 2024-25, the Chennai division of Southern Railways or SR achieved record breaking revenue of Rs 4611 cr. This was mentioned by the Divisional Railways Manager Mr. Shailendra Singh. He added that in the current FY up to July month the revenue achieved by SR was Rs 1563 cr.
Every day, the Chennai Division of SR handles more than 12lakhs passengers and this includes 9lakh suburban passengers. Mr. Singh spoke about how 21% more capacity was possible mainly due to the up-gradation of EMU rakes from 9car to 12car on all major suburban routes. For operational benefits, a 4th railway line was added between Chennai Beach and Egmore.
In Chennai-Gudur, Chennai- Jolarpettai and Arakkonam- Renigunta sections, sectional speed of trains were increased from 110kmph to 130kmph. In the last FY few infrastructural facilities were commissioned. Point is that in this FY there are as many as 88 lifts plus 69 escalators, pay and use toilets at 39 stations, ATVMs for ticketing at 52 locations, emergency medical care at 3 stations etc.
It is worthy to note that digital lockers were installed at Central station and at Katpadi station. Moreover, executive lounges at Chennai Egmore and Central stations, a/c waiting halls at 5 stations, information display board at 44 stations, CCTV cameras at 49 stations were also commissioned. From April month, an a/c EMU train began functioning. This was explained by Mr. Shailendra Singh. He concluded that RPF have rescued 792 left behind kids and have saved 17 passengers lives etc.
