The Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) will temporarily shift its operations from Broadway bus terminus to Royapuram in the first week of June. The move comes as part of a plan to construct a 10-storey multimodal complex at the current Broadway site, led by Chennai Metro Asset Management Ltd (CMAML).
The temporary facility at Royapuram, developed on 3.45 acres of Chennai Port Trust land, is expected to be ready by end-May. It will accommodate up to 70 buses, feature covered seating, platforms, shelters, crew rest areas, a lactation room, and accessible toilet facilities, all at a cost of Rs 7.5 crore.
Once operational, the Broadway site - currently the city`s largest terminus with 80 bus bays - will be handed over for redevelopment.
