Ooty - Coonoor Daily Special Mountain Train Service Extended Till October 5; Check Timings

Tourists planning a visit to the Nilgiris have more time to enjoy the scenic Nilgiri Mountain Railway, as the daily special mountain train service between Ooty and Coonoor has been extended until October 5, 2026.

The special train services were introduced in March to cater to the increased tourist rush during the summer season. Following an overwhelming response and repeated requests from travelers and tourism stakeholders, Southern Railway`s Salem Division has decided to extend the services.

Daily Ooty–Coonoor Special Train Schedule (July 7 – October 5)

Coonoor to Ooty: Departs 1:40 PM, arrives 2:50 PM
Ooty to Coonoor: Departs 3:10 PM, arrives 4:20 PM

Weekly Ooty–Coonoor Special Trains

From July 10 to August 2, special trains will operate on Fridays and Sundays.

 - Ooty to Coonoor: Departs 2:50 PM, arrives 3:55 PM

Return services will operate from July 11 to August 3 on Saturdays and Mondays.

- Coonoor to Ooty: Departs 9:20 AM, arrives 10:45 AM

Mettupalayam–Ooty Special Train Schedule

Between July 10 and August 2, the special mountain train will operate on Fridays and Sundays.

Mettupalayam to Ooty: Departs 9:10 AM, arrives 2:25 PM

The return service from Ooty to Mettupalayam will run on Saturdays and Mondays until August 3.

Ooty to Mettupalayam: Departs 11:25 AM, arrives 4:20 PM

Reservation Details

According to the Salem Railway Division, passengers can reserve seats in advance. The special trains will offer:

- Mettupalayam - Coonoor: 40 First Class seats and 140 Second Class seats.

- Coonoor - Ooty: 80 First Class seats and 140 Second Class seats.

The extension is expected to benefit thousands of tourists visiting the Nilgiris during the extended travel season.
