Apollo Cancer Centres Launch Check-Olate Campaign to Promote Breast Cancer Awareness

Posted on: 31/Oct/2025 3:37:23 PM

In observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Apollo Cancer Centres, Chennai, and Apollo Proton Cancer Centre have launched an innovative campaign titled ‘Check-Olate’, blending indulgence with awareness. The campaign uses dark chocolate as a symbolic reminder for women to take time for self-care and perform regular breast self-examinations.

According to GLOBOCAN, breast cancer remains the leading cause of cancer among Indian women, contributing to 13.5% of all new cancer cases and 10.6% of total cancer deaths. Yet, only 1.6% of women aged 30–69 have ever undergone screening. The Check-Olate initiative aims to normalize self-care and early detection by encouraging women to make breast self-examination a monthly ritual.

A special panel discussion on the campaign was held at Apollo Cancer Centre, Chennai, moderated by Dr. Rathna Devi, Senior Consultant, Radiation Oncology, with participation from Dr. Madhupriya R G S, Dr. Manjula Rao, and Dr. Asha Reddy. Ms. Devaki Vijayaraman, MasterChef India – Tamil (Season 1) Winner, unveiled a 1.5 ft dark chocolate wall designed to raise awareness about breast cancer.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Karan Puri, CEO of Apollo Proton Cancer Centre & Apollo Cancer Centre, Chennai, said, “When women thrive, nations flourish. The ‘Check-Olate’ initiative reminds every woman that self-care is not a privilege but a source of power.”

Each Check-Olate bar features a QR code linking to an animated video demonstrating how to perform breast self-examination. Using dark chocolate, known for its antioxidant and heart-health benefits, the campaign creatively links wellness with awareness.

`Check-Olate` is not just an awareness initiative - its a movement inspiring women to reclaim control of their health, turning a moment of indulgence into a reminder for self-care.

A sweet step by Apollo Cancer Centres towards empowering women through awareness, empathy, and early detection.
