Posted on: 02/Sep/2025 9:35:35 AM

Next time, when you take a dive in the swimming pool present in your locality, please be careful!!

It is really scary to even imagine a brain eating amoeba present in the fresh water entering our body through nostrils and affecting our brain. What if this happens in reality?

In the neighbouring state Kerala, there are few cases identified where the brain-eating amoeba has entered the body of persons through their noses and affected their brains. These persons showed symptoms like headache, fever etc.

Now, the TN Public Health Department has issued an order and as per the order the swimming pools must be maintained properly. It must be noted that this brain eating amoeba does not spread from one person to another and hence there is no need to panic or worry unnecessarily.

To safeguard the public in Tamil Nadu, the public health department has taken several measures. The dept has ordered the district public health officers to inspect the swimming pools present in the corporation, municipality and in the private hotels etc.

It is learnt that the swimming pools must be emptied twice per day and cleaned with chlorine powder and sanitizer. To check whether all the hotel owners are following this, a study has been ordered to be conducted. For a few days, parents must avoid bathing their kids in polluted and contaminated water bodies.  Now there is a spread of viral fever in Chennai etc. Hence, the public must visit hospitals without fail if they show symptoms like fever etc.
