Till now the vehicles entering Chennai from places like Bengaluru, Krishnagiri and Vellore etc have been finding it difficult due to heavy traffic. Soon, this issue would not be there for the vehicles that enter Chennai from these places. Thanks to NHAI or National Highway Authority of India for giving approval to construct a 6-lane flyover from Poonamallee to Maduravoyal in Chennai.
On Tuesday, NHAI floated tender to build an 8.1km elevated corridor at a cost of Rs 1250 cr. It is said that the elevated corridor would have entry and exit points at its origins and would not have access ramps in between. Important piece of information is that NHAI would also be constructing another 4-lane Thiruvarur Bypass in the Nagapattinam- Thanjavur section of NH83. It is learnt that the bypass would be executed under the hybrid annuity mode at a cost of Rs 796 cr.
It was later brought out by Mr. I.S. Janakumaran, project director of NHAI that about 90000 vehicles travel on an average on the Poonamallee- Maduravoyal stretch every day. He added that the works would start in 3 months and would get completed in 2.5 years.
There would be another 13km corridor linking ORR with Sriperumbudur and this would enable the commuters to travel 22km in less than 20minutes. By this, entry to Chennai would be quicker compared to the present entry time. It is known that the current entry time takes about one hour due to various junctions in Poonamallee, Mangadu, Thiruverkadu and Vanagaram etc.
