Kilambakkam Bus Terminus Faces Ongoing Connectivity Issues Due to Project Delays
Passengers using the Kilambakkam bus terminus are facing ongoing difficulties as the railway station and skywalk projects, meant to improve connectivity, have been delayed until March 2026. These projects were initially expected to be ready by early 2025 but have slowed due to construction delays and land acquisition disputes.
The planned 500-metre skywalk with escalators and lifts is designed to connect the bus terminus directly to the upcoming railway station across GST Road, providing safer access for thousands of commuters. However, unresolved compensation issues have stalled work, forcing passengers to rely on costly auto-rickshaws or take risky road crossings.
Meanwhile, construction of the Kilambakkam railway station, which began in March 2024, is progressing slowly, with only one platform completed so far. With passenger traffic already exceeding 1.3 lakh daily, and festival crowds expected to push numbers higher, the lack of direct rail access and safe pedestrian facilities continues to cause congestion, delays, and safety concerns.
