IMD Alert: Low Pressure Over Indian Ocean May Intensify - Rain Likely in Tamil Nadu from Feb 20

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported that a low-pressure area over the equatorial Indian Ocean and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify on February 18.

Low Pressure System Movement

The weather system, which formed over the eastern equatorial Indian Ocean and the central south Bay of Bengal, has moved west-northwestwards. It is currently positioned over the Indian Ocean near the equator and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal.

Meteorologists predict that the system may strengthen further while continuing its west-northwest movement.

Tamil Nadu Weather Forecast (Feb 18–23)

February 18 & 19

- Dry weather expected across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal

- Chennai to witness partly cloudy skies

- Light mist likely during early morning hours in north Tamil Nadu districts

February 20 to 23

Moderate rainfall likely at isolated places over:

- Coastal Tamil Nadu

- South interior districts

- North interior districts

- Puducherry and Karaikal

Residents are advised to stay updated with the latest IMD weather bulletins.

Fishermen Warning Issued

Strong winds with speeds reaching up to 55 kmph are expected between February 19 and 21 over:

- Gulf of Mannar

- Kanyakumari coastal areas

Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea during this period due to rough sea conditions.
