Dense Fog Disrupts Delhi Flights; 63 Departures Cancelled, 66 Arrivals Diverted

Posted on: 20/Dec/2025 12:21:58 PM

Severe dense fog and low visibility caused major disruption to air traffic at Indira Gandhi International Airport on December 20, 2025. Airport authorities confirmed that 63 outbound flights were cancelled, while 66 incoming flights were diverted due to unsafe landing conditions.

The situation has persisted over the past few days, severely affecting flight operations across North India. On December 19, IndiGo alone cancelled 22 flights to and from Delhi. Airlines have also warned of possible delays and cancellations at Ranchi, Jammu, and Hindon airports as foggy conditions continue.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) said it is closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with airlines to ensure passenger safety and minimize inconvenience.

Delhi Air Quality Worsens

Adding to the disruption, Delhi’s air quality deteriorated sharply, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) touching 384 at 8 AM, placing it in the ‘Very Poor’ category, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

Passengers are advised to check flight status in advance, allow extra travel time, and follow airline advisories as fog conditions may continue to impact flight operations.
