M.K. Stalin Inaugurates ₹61 Crore Madhya Kailash ‘L’ Shaped Flyover in Chennai

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin today inaugurated the much-awaited “L” shaped flyover at Madhya Kailash on Sardar Patel Road, a key stretch in Chennai connecting Adyar and Guindy. Built at an estimated cost of ₹61 crore, the 652-metre-long flyover has been constructed to ease heavy traffic congestion along the 3.2 km corridor that passes important landmarks such as IIT Madras, Anna University, and the Cancer Institute.

The flyover is designed exclusively for vehicles travelling from Sardar Patel Road towards OMR, enabling smoother movement for commuters on the Adyar–Guindy, Guindy–Adyar, and OMR–Guindy routes without getting delayed at traffic signals or ground-level junctions.

For enhanced safety, the bridge has been constructed using the ‘superelevation’ method to prevent vehicles from overturning on curves. The retaining walls have been raised, modern lighting has been installed, and a speed limit of 30 kmph has been imposed on the curved section. Warning signs have also been placed at multiple points.

After inaugurating the flyover, the Chief Minister walked along the structure and inspected the quality of construction. The new “L” shaped flyover is expected to save significant travel time for thousands of daily commuters.
