Republic Day 2026: Traffic Diversions Announced Around Marina Beach in Chennai

Ahead of the Republic Day celebrations, traffic restrictions and diversions have been announced in and around Marina Beach, Chennai. The main Republic Day event will be held opposite the Labour Statue at Marina Beach, where Tamil Nadu Governor R. N. Ravi will hoist the National Flag. Chief Minister M. K. Stalin and several dignitaries are expected to attend the ceremony.

As part of security and traffic arrangements, Kamarajar Salai (Beach Road) will be closed to all vehicles from 6:00 AM on January 26 until the conclusion of the event, between Gandhi Statue and War Memorial.

Key Traffic Diversions:

- Heavy and commercial vehicles from Adyar towards Broadway will be diverted via Greenways Road, R.K. Mutt Road, St. Mary’s Road, Luz Avenue, T.T.K. Road, Royapettah, Anna Salai, and other alternate routes.

- Other vehicles, including MTC buses, will be diverted at Gandhi Statue Junction towards Dr. Radhakrishnan Salai, Royapettah, and Anna Salai to reach Broadway.

- Vehicles from Mylapore will be rerouted via Royapettah High Road, with buses following designated diversion routes.

- Vehicles approaching Kamarajar Salai from Dr. Natesan Road, Dr. Besant Road, Bharathi Salai, Walajah Road, and nearby areas will be diverted at respective junctions.

- The Anna Square bus stop will be temporarily shifted near Chintadripet Railway Station.

- Vehicles from Parrys Corner towards Adyar will be diverted via North Beach Road, Anna Salai, G.P. Road, Royapettah, and Lloyds Road.

- No vehicles will be allowed towards War Memorial from Anna Salai–Flag Staff Road Junction.

Motorists are advised to follow traffic police instructions and use alternative routes to avoid inconvenience.
