The prevailing low-pressure area over the southwest Bay of Bengal has intensified into a deep depression. This system is expected to strengthen further over the southwest Bay of Bengal near Sri Lanka in the next 12 hours, developing into a cyclone.
Once it intensifies into a cyclonic storm, it will be named ‘Ditwah’, as proposed by Yemen.
According to meteorological authorities, the system is likely to move in a north-northwesterly direction, gaining strength as it travels along the southwest Bay of Bengal and the Sri Lankan coast over the next 48 hours.
The cyclone is then expected to approach the coasts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and south Andhra Pradesh. Heavy rainfall is forecast in six districts of Tamil Nadu the day after tomorrow due to the cyclone’s influence.
