These days, many of us consume protein supplements or whey proteins!!

Mostly present in the milk, whey proteins have a variety of amino acids in them and these could be absorbed by the body. It must be noted that proteins got from whey or the watery portion of milk that would separate from the curd when making cheese are whey proteins. For improving the athletic performance and to improve strength, many consume whey proteins.

The common form of consuming whey proteins is by protein shakes. There are many short time issues we could get by intake of whey proteins and these could be headaches, stomach aches, acne etc. We could also get many long term side effects of intake of whey proteins.

Various long term side effects of intake of whey proteins are

Kidney issues:

When we consume whey proteins, then our plasma urea content would become more plus there would be urinary calcium excretion and urinary volume. These would lead to kidney problems in us. Kidneys would get over burdened and it could lead to the formation of kidney stones. It is worthy to note here that persons who consume whey proteins must also consume water and fibres to neutralise.

Gastro intestinal issues:

By consuming whey proteins, the good bacteria that is present in the gut could get reduced and bad bacteria would become more leading to a few issues like stomach pain, constipation etc. There are also chances that our body might find it difficult to digest even dairy products.

Liver issues:

Heart issues:

The heart activity would get affected when we consume whey proteins. We could get heart arrhythmia and cardiac arrest etc. High protein sources have been associated with high levels of saturated fats, increased blood sugar levels and higher blood acidity etc. Heart functioning could get affected by intake of whey proteins.

Increases blood acidity:

By consuming whey protein powders prepared from animal milk the blood acidity would become more. Point to be noted is that when our kidneys find it difficult to process extra proteins then our blood would become acidic in nature.

Ketosis:

Not many people who want to lose their weight would know about this ketosis issue that could be due to intake of whey proteins. By consuming low carbohydrate and high fat based whey protein, fats get broken down for energy. Ketones would also be formed and these would create lots of pressure on the liver. Ketosis could get boosted by the intake of whey proteins.

Osteoporosis or bone issues:

Mineral imbalance could occur when we consume excess of whey proteins. Bone density would get affected and thereby we could get an osteoporosis issue.

Gout:

When persons with gout issue consume whey proteins then he or she would get increased pain. It t is a must to consult a doctor before the intake of protein supplements.

Nutritional imbalance:

Consuming one nutrient in an increased amount is not good for one`s health. We could get deficiency of other important minerals if we over consume whey proteins. It is essential to keep a check on other nutrients too while consuming whey proteins.
