Palmyra tuber, known as ‘Panankizhangu’ in Tamil derived from ‘Panai Maram’ for Palmyra tree, has a lot of medicinal properties.
They have the cooling property for the body. It can cure constipation. It strengthens the body. Steam the palmyra tubers, cut them into small pieces, mix it with karuppatti jaggery and grind into a powder and take. This would provide the iron required for the body!
Palmyra tuber, when taken with coconut milk, the body organs and members get strengthened. The wombs of the women get strengthened.
Also, one can mix palmyra tuber, garlic, pepper, and salt, grind into a powder form and take. Those who prefer sweeter kind can instead mix with karuppatti jaggery and take.
As the palmyra tuber has a rich fibre content, taking it increases the body resistance to illnesses and sickness. When taking out the palmyra tuber from under the ground, an ingredient ‘thavin’ can be separated from the seeds. Eating this ‘thavin’ cures complaints like stomach ache and migraine headache.
Those who suffer from stomach and urine-related complaints can include the flour made out of the Palmyra tuber in their diet by making gruel and taking in the morning, to good results.
By taking the gruel made out of the ground palmyra tuber, it will quell the hunger as well as increase the body resistance to illnesses.
However, palmyra tuber has more ‘pitta’ or gall ingredient – so, it is better to chew 5 or 6 peppers after eating the palmyra tuber.
Otherwise, regular intake of palmyra tuber indeed sure to strengthen the body and contribute to good health as well!
