It was in the year 1985 that the plan to construct parakkum trains or MRTS and reduce the traffic congestion in Chennai city was first decided. It was planned to implement MRTS services in 3 phases from Chennai Bach or Chennai Kadarkarai to St Thomas Mount or Parangimalai.

The latest news is that from November onwards Velachery- Parangimalai MRTS services would be available for the residents of Chennai.

It must be recalled that in phase 11997 9km railway line was constructed between Beach and Mylapore at a cost of Rs 266 cr. In phase 2, a railway line was constructed between Mylapore and Velachery at a huge cost of Rs 877.59 cr and the work was completed in 2007. In the year 2008 at a cost of Rs 495 cr, work was started in phase 3 between Velachery and Parangimalai. Point is that a total of 5km railway line was constructed with the help of 167 pillars at a distance of 4.5km. In the beginning, the work was started at a cost of Rs 495 cr and now is going on at a cost of Rs 734 cr.

For many years, the remaining work of about half a kilometre railway line work between Adambakkam and Parangimalai was put on hold due to the case that was filed by some residents.

The project estimate for the project was increased as the work was not completed in 2010. Point is as per the plans this work was supposed to have been over by 2010.

It is now revealed that in this project the construction of railway stations in places lie Puzhuthivakkam, Adambakkam and Vaanuvampettai have been completed and the trains are ready to operate. As many as 167 pillars have been erected in a row in the Adambakkam and in Thillai Ganga Nagar places and work connecting the flyover has been completed now.

In this scenario, the official has revealed that from November the MRTS services between Velachery and Parangimalai would be put for public use. Information gathered is that after obtaining the approval from the Railway Safety Authority MRTS train service would begin.
