International terminal inspected

Posted on: 18/May/2013 2:37:30 PM
Minister of State for Civil Aviation K.C. Venugopal and Chairman of the Airports Authority of India (AAI) V.P. Agrawal inspected the new international terminal at the Chennai International Airport on Friday.

‘The delay in commissioning (is due) to lack of communication between agencies. The Civil Aviation Ministry had spoken to the Finance and the Home Ministries about posting adequate manpower in the international terminal. As far as the cost escalation was concerned, the Ministry would look into it’, said Mr. Venugopal.

‘Both Chennai and Kolkata (are our) flagship projects. As far as quality of construction (is) concerned there (has been) no compromise on it. The Airports Authority of India had asked additional manpower from customs, immigration and the CISF. The AAI had requested the State government to depute police personnel to immigration. There was also a problem in the customs with regard to manpower, which the AAI was looking into it. As far as the false ceiling (is) concerned, there were some gaps inside and outside the terminal building. The AAI would address these problems at the earliest’, said Mr. Agrawal.
