Rs.1 7 crore loss due to unbuilt bridges, says CAG report

Posted on: 18/May/2013 2:16:47 PM
A CAG (Comptroller and Auditor General) report on local bodies has termed as unacceptable several projects that have exceeded the budgeted amount. The report for year ending 2012 has claimed that the budget has exceeded Rs. 17 crores between 2006 and 2012 for a project to complete eight bridges. Only 3 have been completed.

The report has blamed bad practices and wrong conventions for the loss. It said that the reason given by the officials that there was an increase in the quotes was ‘not acceptable’. It also said that the Corporation’s responsibility was to choose the lowest possible tender. According to the report, a loss of Rs. 1.07 crores was caused by the Tender Award Committee’s (TAC) injudicious decision.
