The Aadhar fever is still on. Started long ago, the process is still on the go with government focusing on speeding up the process, targeting to complete within October.
Across Tamil Nadu, about 522 Aadhar centres are set up. So far, nearly 5 crore and 52 lakh individuals have got their names registered and done with the formalities for receiving Aadhar card.
Among all Tamil Nadu districts with least number of Aadhar registrations, Chennai is one too. Census officials say the decrease in number of registrants for Aadhar is less in Chennai due to increase in migration of people and large number of office goers.
Amidst all these progresses with Aadhar, the contract with Bhel for providing necessary technological support for Aadhar operations is getting over by October this year. The government has decided to speed up the process of providing Aadhar well before the expiry of contract. Including 18 centres in Chennai, on the whole, about 118 centres are functioning in Tamil Nadu and all of it uses extra computer systems for finishing the works faster.
