The Direct Benefit Transfer Scheme for Liquefied Petroleum Gas consumers which was later renamed as Pahal has been successful in various parts of the country.
Under the current scheme, consumers who are not enrolled were given a three months grace period during which they received the cylinders at subsidized rates. After the grace period, they were to be given an additional period of three months ending June as parking period. During the parking period they would have to buy cylinders at the market rate. If the consumer joins the scheme within the parking period, the subsidy according to entitlement and consumption during the parking period would be transferred to the customer`s bank account.
For those consumers who are joining from today (1st July) will not be getting their last three months subsidy. As far as Tamil Nadu is concerned there are 1.53 Crores LPG connections. As on 30th June, 1.38 Crore consumers have joined the DBTL scheme. It is understood that the remaining consumers will be joining the scheme to get benefitted.
