Posted on: 08/Dec/2010 4:47:06 AM
It is almost cyclical that weather becomes extreme once in three or four year. In 2010 now, it seems like worst is still not over. The recent rains have already consumed more than 200 lives and destroyed crops in more than thousand hectares and damaged roads. We are only in the beginning of winter but this time of winter is already the coldest in a decade or so

The damages have been estimated by the Government to be more Rs 3000 Crores. The state government is setting aside about Rs 500 Crores for various flood relief activities. The Government is also planning to seek assistance from the Central Government to the extent of Rs 1607 Crores under the National Disaster Relief Fund for carrying out permanent restoration works and compensating farmers for crop loss. This will include compensation for crop losses.
