Pay a bit more from your pockets to taste juicy mangoes this year

Following a sequence of unfortunate events like failure of seasonal rainfall, crop damage, etc, the crop production in India has come down by 20 per cent which has left this year with hiked price of mangoes. Adding fuel to the fire is the increasing number of export orders from countries like UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, Kuwait, UK and more. This puts pressure to the production, says the industry body, Assocham. It has left the domestic market demanding extra rupees fro your pockets to taste the juicy fruit.

In states including Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Bihar, UP and Maharashtra, 50% of mango trees are damaged owing to the unseasonal rains in first half of March. These states contribute more than two-third of mangoes in the entire country. It is thus obvious for the country to face a hike in prices this year.

A recent study states that there has been 27 per cent increase in mango export in the past three years. It was Rs 164 in 2010-11 which then rose up to Rs 267 crore in 2012-13. This has a huge impact on hike in price in domestic market too.
