Indian Railways has created a system on the basis of the QR Code in order to ensure safer travel without contacting the passenger. Accordingly, the Railway officials have informed that the ticket-checking system based on the QR Code will be implemented on the special train operated by Southern Railway - Chennai-New Delhi.
The Railway administration has been taking various initiatives to prevent the spread of the raging coronavirus. These activities include converting coaches into special wards for coronavirus-infected patients, making and giving masks, sanitizers, protection clothes, and breathing devices, etc.
In this situation, as a step towards ensuring the safety of the passengers’ journey, Indian Railways has created a system based on QR code whereby the tickets can be checked without any contact with the passenger.
This checking system has been introduced in the Prayagraj Division in the Northcentral Railways.
CRIS (Centre for Railway Information Systems), functioning under IRCTC (Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation) has developed this new checking system based on QR Code, This will enable the TTEs (Travelling Ticket Examiners) to check the tickets of the passengers without any direct personal contact with them.
The Railway Officials informed that this new system will be tested first on the special Chennai-New Delhi train operated by the Southern Railway.
The Railway officials shared regarding this:
“Once the reservation is done, the passengers will receive the details of the tickets in the QR code warning and the link. The passengers need to click the link sent by the Railways Administration to their cell phones. They should further show the QR code. Subsequently, the TTE (Travel Ticket Examiners) will scan the QR code given with the Hand-held Device or the special cell phone given to them by the Railway Information System. After this, the application will automatically develop, renew, and inform the details of the arrival of the passenger, details of the seats/berths, the number of vacant seats, etc., as per that particular time. The details regarding the QR Code Scanning procedure are available at Google Play Store. Using the WR Code can be read.”
Activities have already been undertaking to introduce this system in all other Railway Divisions, In this regard, to access the details of the unreserved tickets issued for easy access, the Northcentral Railways Zone has introduced the QR-based checking system in 12 Railway Stations recently.
Lockdown
Lockdown had been announced as a preventive measure against the prevention of the raging coronavirus. Due to this, thehe usual train services were stopped on 22nd March. After this, Indian Railways has been operating 200 special trains. In Southern Railways, except for Chennai, 7 special trains were operated for other cities. With the subsequent intensification of the coronavirus spread, the train services have been stopped until 31st July.
After the reservation, the passengers can access the warnings through the URL related to the QR Code.
When the passengers enter the Railway Station Complex, or while checking, the passengers need to click the URL.
The QR code will be displayed on the browser (The cell phone must have an internet facility).
The TTE, without any direct contact with the passenger, using either a hand-held device or a special cell phone, will scan the QR Code.
The details of the ticket will get automatically renewed on the hand-held device. The information regarding the vacant seats will be displayed at that time.
