Empty streets and deserted look were witnessed on the first day (19th June) of the lock down in Chennai

For the sake of avoiding police action, many Chennai residents stayed in their homes and did not come out to the roads. This was during the first day of total lockdown in the Chennai city.

During the normal lockdown, shops selling groceries and vegetables were allowed to function. Except these shops, other shops were shut down in Chennai yesterday.  At 2pm, groceries and vegetable shops were also closed according to the rule.

It is shocking to mention that TN had more than 50,000 Coronavirus positive cases and as a result to contain the infection the TN government had imposed complete lockdown from 19th June to 30th June 2020 in the Chennai city and its neighbouring districts. This time, the TN government gave enough time for the residents to buy essential items and this was not the case in the earlier lockdown.

It was later revealed by a resident belonging to Teynampet that there was no overcrowding at the shops on Friday morning and the streets were empty. The strict police monitoring had made many not to go for their workplaces that were far away from their places of residences.

Information is Mr. G. Prakash, Chennai Corporation commissioner, had requested Chennai residents to utilize this lockdown for containing Coronavirus infection. He spoke about how GCC would be identifying those with symptoms and would conduct fever camps in divisions by using pulse oxymeters and thermal guns.
