BS-6 Petrol and Diesel with minimal Sulphur content to be sold from 1st April!

Posted on: 20/Feb/2020 1:00:46 PM
Vehicles fitted with high-quality BS-6 Engine only will be sold in the country from 1st April.

Following this, the oil corporation has announced that only higher quality petrol and diesel will be sold from that date (1st April).

With the main objective of reducing air pollution, the central government has ordered that only vehicles fitted with BS-6 Standard must be sold from 1st April.

Accordingly, the sales of BS-6 Standard fuel must also start on 1st April.

The CEO of Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) Sanjiv Singh informed on this:

The share market for Indian Oil Corporation in the fuel trade is around 50%. The sulphur content in the BS-6 Standard fuel is very minimal.

The task of transporting the BS-6 Standard fuel to all petrol bunks will commence in the next few weeks. So, in the course of time, only this high-quality fuel will be sold in all petrol stations.

In case the sulphur content is more in the fuel, it will cause a higher extent of pollution. In the BS-4 standard fuel currently being used, the sulphur present is 50 ppm (parts per million). However, in the BS-6 Standard quality petrol and diesel, the sulphur content is only 10 ppm!

Nevertheless, oil corporations have invested a huge sum of Rs. 30000 Crores for production of BS-6 Standard fuel by setting up treatment plants for the same.

IOC has invested Rs. 17000 Crores.

The price of BS-6 Standard fuel is higher than the BS-4 Standard fuel in the international market. So, the price of petrol and diesel of this higher quality will be higher!

In this regard, it is worth recalling that CEO Sanjay Singh had already mentioned the prices may increase from 50 Paise to Re. 1 per litre for petrol and diesel.
