Rs 1.5 lakh crore overall deposit, SBI tops with the max

Starting from 10th November until now, over Rs 1.5 lakh crore is deposited in banks.
 
Rs 1.5 lakh crore deposit 
The central government had announced that it is demonetizing Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes from the night of 8th November. This followed a complete shutdown of all banks on 9th November and on the consecutive day, the 10th November, the banks started functioning. People were allowed to get their old rupee notes exchanged at banks and get newly printed Rs 500 and Rs 2000 notes. Hence, people thronged in to their nearest banks to deposit all the cash they had as these demonetized Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes. Accordingly, the amount received in the past four days crosses over Rs 1.5 lakh crore.
 
SBI tops the list with maximum deposits
Out of all banks, the SBI has received deposit amount of over Rs 75,945 crore and money worth Rs 3,753 crore is exchanged. Until yesterday, nearly Rs 7705 crore worth Rs 100 and Rs 2000 notes were withdrawn from banks.
 
Abiding by the centre’s orders the banks continued working even during weekends. Today being Gurunanak Jayanthi, in spite of having announced holiday to all banks in Gujarat, MP, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Bihar, and Haryana have declared holiday to all banks, they are functioning today. Banks including Axis, ICICI, HDFC, SBI, etc have loaded new rupee notes in their ATM centres and have made the new Rs 500 and Rs 2000 notes available for public to withdraw.
