With the Tamil Nadu State Legislative Assembly Elections scheduled to be conducted on 16th May, the Election Commission is making the maximum efforts to ensure 100 percent voting.

It is also noted that the public awareness about the importance of voting is on an unprecedented high.

As the Election day falls on a Monday, it is expected that many voters would leave on Saturday itself for visiting their native places to cast their votes. So, in order to avoid rush and crowding, special buses are being arranged for these voters visiting their native places.

The government transport officials explained that in order to facilitate the voters who would leave Chennai to visit their native places for voting, 100 long-distance express buses are being arranged. This would facilitate the public to avoid rush and to make a comfortable and relaxed trip.

As the election falls on a Monday and the previous 2 days are weekend holidays, it is expected that many Chennai residents would be preparing to visit their native places.

The reservations for the long-distance express buses on 13th and 14th May are already full.

So, it has been decided to arrange for 100 more long-distance express buses. The buses would go to Kanyakumari, Nagarkovil, Madurai, Trichy, and Coimbatore.

In a similar arrangement, 300 to 400 special buses are being arranged from Coimbatore, Kumbakonam, Madurai, Salem, Tirunelveli, and Villupuram.

The public are requested to take maximum advantage of this special arrangement.

Generally, it is a trend to arrange special buses only during the occasions of important festivals like Deepavali and Pongal to Nagarkovil, Tirunelveli, Madurai, Trichy, Thanjavur, and Coimbatore.

However, this is the first time special buses are being organised for election.
